Michelle’s Rundown: Internet Week NYC

By Michelle DeForest.

I’m pumped for next week. Why? It’s Internet Week in NYC! Imagine SXSW Interactive, minus the panels, and set in the most lively city in the US. Sure it’s a bonus that I live here, and I have an excellent excuse to hit the parties at night and come in to the work late, but correct me if I’m wrong, NYC seems like a perfect setting for celebrating what we are all devoting our careers to try and make the most of.

*Brief History Lesson* It all started when the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting called up the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (aka the Academy behind the Webby Awards), and asked them to help rally companies to throw parties and make their meetups and conferences a part of the festivities.

The events start this Tuesday, June 3, and run through Tuesday, June 10 concluding with the Webby Awards Gala. And in case you hadn’t heard, Fast Lane Daily picked up a Webby Award so we’re ready to celebrate BIG TIME!

We’re kicking things off with the Channel Frederator Awards, continuing on with Mashable’s Exhibit Hall, and then wrapping things up with a Tumblr Rock Band Party, as well as the Webby Film and Video Awards. Best part? YOU can join us! Mashable’s Exhibit Hall at Touch on June 6th is open to the public, and guess what? A TON of our spectacular stars will be there giving out all kinds of sexy SWAG from their networks!

Now, while we’re incredibly proud of our FLD team, I can’t believe what talented company we’re in! Check out some of these other winners.

Wainy Days

Wainy Days has to be one of the funniest series on the web, and yep, that’s what it won the Webby for! Created by, directed by and starring David Wain, who directed White Hot American Summer, The Ten, the Stella Shorts, and The State (really there’s too many to list), the series follows David’s fictional dating life in NYC.

A Vodka Movie by Zach Galifianakis, Tim and Eric

Tim and Eric have been making teh funny interwebs for years, and they were chosen as the this year’s Best Actors. If you haven’t seen this video with them and Zach Galifianakis for Absolut Vodka, I’m not sure you’ve been using your time at work properly. Seeing how Absolut gave them complete creative control speaks to how vastly talented they are.

Samurai

From GE’s Imagination Theatre comes Samurai, an animated fable that took home the People’s Voice Award for Best Sound Design.

Fast Lane Daily

And of course, the FLD crew deserves such BIG props for working so tirelessly this past year. I mean this team nails it every time, and continues to amaze us over and over again. Not to mention their fans are AMAZING! Check out one of their award-winning episodes featuring Jay Leno!

I hope to see you all around next week. And in case you’re overwhelmed by the event list, here’s an abbreviated rundown of the parties.
