JETSET is one of our favorite online shows, so all of us at Next New Networks are really delighted that we’ve entered into a relationship with creators Zadi Diaz and Steve Woolf to license the show and support their vision of a new kind of internet and pop culture show for young adults.
JETSET ups the ante every week on how good an independent, online show can be: all you need to do is watch something like last week’s episode from New Orleans to see that. We’re really happy for the opportunity to learn from and partner with two of the leading voices and standout talents in the videoblogging movement, with a complementary philosophy to ours, as we all try to figure out the best ways to approach this space.

For those of you haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching, JETSET is a weekly online show that aims to cover all things interesting, new and fun online, what my partner Fred has taken to calling “the new pop culture.” We’re moving into a world where nothing’s quite evolved yet to replace the mass pop culture many of us knew; where it’s all going, it’s hard to predict, but I feel like we’ll see it on JETSET first.
Over the past nine months, JETSET has built a pretty significant audience by focusing on a core community and engaging in a conversation with them, trying to make something different than anything on TV or anywhere else. They’ve made the show available wherever people wanted it to be, on places like mobile phones, set top boxes and online social networks. And they’ve made the show a place for new voices, highlighting other talented vloggers like Annie Tsai, Bonny Pierzina, and Josh Shipp. All of this is in line with what we hope to do at Next New Networks, and that’s no coincidence; our thinking over the past year was influenced and inspired by conversations with people we admired like Steve and Zadi about where we all thought this medium could go.
What this doesn’t mean is that we’ll be seeing a lot of existing online shows and videoblogs joining Next New Networks; we’re focused on creating and building online networks to serve specific communities, and one of the things we’ll be working on in the coming months is how we can build a network strategy to serve JETSET’s audience. Fans of the show can expect to find it in all the places they already do, including the JETSET website and destinations like Blip.tv, and we’re going to be working hard to get it in front of a lot more people in the days and weeks to come.
Our thanks, Steve and Zadi and the JETSET team, for choosing to work with us — we’re looking forward to doing great things together.
