Walking the walk.

For most of my working life the people who annoy me the most are the ones who have disrespect for their jobs. Music biz folks who hate the artists, ad agency types who hate advertising, TV producers who think their audiences are idiots. And then there are the folks who are talking the talk, like the executives in the web bubble who had their assistants print out their emails so they could write the answers in the margin and have the assistants type them out and return the mail.

All of which leads me to people who actually walk the walk. Like the smart venture capitalists who’ve taken to and continued blogging. Folks like Mike Hirschland, Fred Wilson, and one of our lead investors from Spark Capital in Boston, Bijan Sabet. Here’s people not only investing in the future –really, they’re making the bets that will help determine what we all do tomorrow– but investing in themselves and how their personal reactions to the technologies, platforms, and media inform how their investments are valuable. Not implying that the blogs have any direct correlation as to how their companies act, only that their feel for the world they’re traveling in is enhanced when they play directly in the sandbox.

Of course, I’m interested in all three of these blogs because these guys like and work in spaces that are at least tangential to my businesses and personal interests. Including the fact that all them seem to love music as much as I do (though, since I’m much much older, the artists don’t always match up). I like that Bijan’s covered Sonos, Trashcan Sinatras, and ThreadBanger. And his family, friends, and Fast Lane Daily. NNN’s really got a rockin’ investment partner.

The only thing I’ll leave uneditorialized is how often all three of them predictably mention the really great Wallstrip.

thanks for the kind words fred.

wow, i also remember working with execs early in my career whose assistants printed out their emails. i felt exactly the same way.

i don’t know if it’s true or not but you gotta assume that bill gates doesn’t use a zune and steve jobs uses an ipod.

Why VCs with blogs are better (Advice for VCs Pt.1)…

There seems to be a 10 to 1 ratio of VCs doling out good advice to entrepreneurs versus the opposite. Frankly, if we entrepreneurs are insane enough to be starting a company, we should have the balls to talk publicaly about our take on the VC/entrepren…
